Produced from roughly 1996 until 2005, the IWC Pilot's Watch Doppelchronograph ref. 3713 was the second pilot model from the brand to include a split-second chronograph. It was available in yellow gold, platinum, or stainless steel with diverse dial and multilingual day-disc options, with the steel version offered on a strap or bracelet and five platinum examples produced on bracelets. From 2003, the 3713 exclusively used Spitfire-style dials, including the ref. IW3713-35, which features a stainless steel case and a black 'Spitfire' dial.
