The Speedmaster Mark II was the first departure from the classic Speedmaster (Professional) design, which by 1969 had essentially reached its final stage, and was supposedly intended to replace the classic Professional though this never occurred. The pictured Speedmaster Professional Mark II MD 145.0034 has a stainless steel case and bracelet, both gold plated, with a black tachymeter ring on the glass—though it is uncertain if that is the original configuration, as most are maroon. Compared to the stainless steel versions, it features radially aligned numerals on the subdials and applied indexes.
