The Radiomir 1940 case, perfected in Florence around 1940 for Italian Navy commandos, evolved from the 1936 Radiomir with sturdier lugs milled from the case block, a simpler strap attachment using tubular bars, a less pronounced cushion shape, a cylindrical crown, and thickness increased from about 15mm to almost 17mm. Officine Panerai now reintroduces this design in a thinner version. The steel Radiomir 1940 has a 42mm case with the P.999 hand-wound movement, the smallest and thinnest caliber from the Neuchâtel manufacture, visible through a sapphire back, offering 60 hours of power reserve and a 21,600 vph balance, supplied on a black alligator strap.
