The name Luminor evokes luminosity and designates the largest family of Officine Panerai watches; Luminor 1950 models follow the brand's tradition of dive watches for the Italian Navy. Originally radium-based, the dials later used the tritium-based substance 'Luminor', patented on 11 January 1949 for luminous products, notably for military use.
